Saying goodbye
We will be holding a memorial service for Harper on Friday, May 10th, at 2 PM in the grove at Woodend Wildlife Sanctuary (8940 Jones Mill Road, Chevy Chase, MD). After the service, we will be sitting shiva at our home in Silver Spring. All are welcome.Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Smith-Lemli-Opitz Foundation (http://www.smithlemliopitz.org/) or Montgomery Kids Hospice (http://www.montgomeryhospice.org/).
Carrie, I know you don’t know me, and I hope that matters little at this time. After hearing your story through my wife Kat, I wanted to take a minute to send you a message to pass along my deepest heartfelt condolences to you, Lou and Shea on your unbelievably painful loss. Little Harper was snatched from your lives way too soon. Every child wants to be loved and little Harper absolutely knew she was loved, which is why she held on so bravely for you to arrive so she could say goodbye to you in her final moments. She wanted you to be there to hold her, for her home was in your arms.
ReplyDeleteNothing ever prepares you for such devastating moments in life, and it’s hard to know what the days ahead have in store. As you begin your journey on the road towards healing and defining the new “normal,” I hope you can take comfort in the fact that for 17 precious days you had a special little Harper, whose place in your lives can never be diminished. She was, and will forever be, your little Harper Bean and she lives in you.
I know words cannot come close to healing the hurt you feel at the moment, but I wanted you to know that I stand with several others who are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.
